SepÂ 5, Sun {A }Around Lake Minnetonka's Crystal Bay Danger Will Robinson!!! A great ride to Lake Minnetonka. Meet 8:00 a.m. at Lake Harriet bandstand. Route west to Golden Valley, Plymouth (Panera food stop), Navarre (maybe ice cream at Culver's), Wayzata, and back to the lake. 60 miles at a moderate pace of 12 to 15 mph. Lots of trails and some lake views. Not a race.Â For this ride, my age and my bike's will total 120 years. Note that this ride is the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Â Bike from the Minnetonka Community Center complex to the Victoria House restaurant in Victoria for lunch.Â Option 1 - Bike flat, crushed-limestone LRT trail out to Victoria and back; just under 30 miles RT.Â Option 2 - Bike neighborhood streets and county roads with hills out to Victoria and back; just under 35 miles RT.Â Both are "No Map" rides.Â Meet at 9:45 am; ride at 10:00.Â Dir: head west on Minnetonka Blvd from I-494, turn right at the Williston Road traffic light and enter the MCC complex.Â Follow road past City Hall building then turn left and park at the south end of the Mtka Ice Arena building parking lot.Â Williston Road can also be accessed from MN 7, go north. Meet in Hudson in the Home Depot parking lot, which is west of Carmichael Road and Center Drive (south of I-94) and across from Denny's, at 10 a.m. Enjoy the roads east of Hudson. Eat lunch at Glens Park in River Falls (bring lunch or buy one in town). Shorter option of 35 miles or the possibility of a "Classic Mel" (without Mel) longer option. Sept 1, Wed. (WW) Forest Lake Ride. For a great ride, meet in the Forest Lake municipal parking lot at 10:00 am and begin riding at 10:15 am. There are several good places to have lunch in Marine-on-St. Croix at about the halfway point. The route covers about 48 miles with several shorter options. Directions: head north on I 35 to Forest Lake exit (Exit 131) and go east as far as you can go. The parking lot will be on your left. Aug 26, Thurs(SNO) CAVE TOUR and DINNER . Â Meet 5 PM sharp at the Wabasha Street caves for a historic tour (as seen on the history channel 'Secret Passages'). Hear legends of mining, mobsters, and ghosts. Fee is $6 for a 45 min tour. No reservations needed for the tour. RSVP for dinner at Boca Chica by 8/25 Jean Iwen 651-690-2900. DIRECTIONS: From downtown St. Paul go south across the Wabasha St. bridge, cross Plato blvd., and watch for a parking lot on the right (west) adjacent to a sandstone cliff (215 Wabasha St. S.). Aug 22, Sun {A} Bike Trails North to Bunker Hill Park Â Bike Elm Creek to Bunker Hills and some trails you may not have ever been on. Meet at Lake Harriet Bandstand at 8:00 a.m. or at the Three River's Elm Creek Park Activities Center at 10:00. Distance from Lake Harriet: 80 miles and about 40 miles if you start and end at Elm Creek Park. Pace will be moderate at 12 to 15 mph. There will be at least two food/snack stops. Aug 23, Mon {A} Easy, Social Bike Ride.Â follow the trail of the Alleygator from Fish Lake Park to Elm Creek Park.Â If we don't find him, we will return to where we started and try again next year.Â This isÂ the next to last Monday, Easy Bike Ride of the season, so if you have notÂ ridden with us yet this year, time is running out.Â Â If interested in this ride, meet us in the parking lot of the defunct AlleygatorsÂ Nite Club parking lot in Maple Grove at 5:00 pm; ride at 5:15.Â This 20-25 mile ride will be mostly on trails and will be conducted at the pace of the slowest rider in the group.Â Â Major rest stop in Elm Creek Park.Â We'll go out to eat after the ride. Â
Directions: Take exit 26 off I-494 in Maple Grove and head east on CR 10 (Bass Lake Rd.).Â Turn left at the first traffic light onto Sycamore Lane (across from the large Prudential building) and in one block, make a left turn in front of McDonald's onto 62nd Place and continue on into the defunct Alleygators parking lot. Burgers, brats, pop and water provided.Â Bring other beverages plus an appetizer, salad or desert to share. Join the Wednesday Wanderers to hike or bike or canoe in and around Itasca State Park. Â We have reserved space at the hostel for Monday and Tuesday nights, the cost will be $23.00 per night; the cost of food will be shared by total group. Aug 17, Tue {AK} Hike - Lake Cornelius. Join us at Lake Cornelius in Edina for a nice shady hike. Meet at the parking lot near the playground on the north side of the lake (Hwy 62 side) at 6:30 p.m. Take 66th St. to just west of Valley View Rd., turn right on Southdale Rd. (a sign points to the Edina Art Gallery), go past the pool and you will find the parking lot and playground. We usually work on the third Tuesday of each month and work for three hours stating at 9:00 am. When: Tuesday, August 10, 6pm to 9pm
Where: Hidden Falls Park, is on the St. Paul side of the river at : 1313 Hidden Falls Dr. (off Mississippi Blvd. and Magoffin) From the Ford Parkway Bridge, go south past the Ford Plant on your left. The entrance to Hidden Falls Park will be within a mile at the next Stop sign. Why: There will be great food, friends, trip mates, people interested in the club and even more food. What: Bring your favorite dish to share such as salads, dessert or a true Minnesota hotdish. This year to help make a smaller carbon foot print on our environment the board asks that you please bring your own plate, utensils and cup. The club will provide iced tea, lemonade, and water. Who: Invite family, friends and others interested in the North Star Ski Touring Club.

Aug 4, Wed {WW} Looking for the Trail of the Alleygator. Meet in the parking lot of the now defunct Alleygator's Nite Club in Maple Grove and bike scenic trails to Elm Creek Park. Meet at 9:30 am so that we can begin riding at 9:45. Most of the ride will be on paved trails. Since this is a "no map" ride, we will ride together as a group. A major rest stop is planned in Elm Creek Park. We will go out to eat after this 30-35 mile ride. NSSTC Annual Picnic Turns Green! When: Tuesday, August 10, 6pm to 9pm
Where: Hidden Falls Park, is on the St. Paul side of the river at : 1313 Hidden Falls Dr. (off Mississippi Blvd. and Magoffin)

From the Ford Parkway Bridge, go south past the Ford Plant on your left. The entrance to Hidden Falls Park will be within a mile at the next Stop sign.

Why: Why not? There will be great food, friends, trip mates, people interested in the club and even more food.

Who: Invite family, friends and others interested in the North Star's.

July 23, Fri {A} Carolyn Dullum will lead a breakfast ride leaving from "The Dullum Farm" in Harris.Â Breakfast will be at the Cafe Stuga in Harris, MN.Â Â Â The ride will cover between 30Â and 35 Â miles dependingÂ on the amount of construction encountered.Â Meet atÂ "The Farm" at 7:45 am; ride at 8:00. Jul 26, Mon {A} Easy, Social Bike Ride will start from the parking lot of the Beth El Synagogue, St. Louis Park.Â We'll meet at 5:00 pm and ride at 5:15.Â This 23 mile ride will be almost entirely on trails running beside Minneapolis' lakes and Minnehaha Creek.Â The turn around point and major rest stop will be at the Lake Nokomis Beach.Â We'll eat JJ's Clubhouse after the ride. Dir:Â Beth El is located on the east side of MN 100 between I-394 and MN 7.Â If coming from I-394, go southÂ on 100 and exitÂ at Minnetonka Blvd. turn left on Mtka Blvd (east) so that you cross 100, then go north on 100 and take the 25 1/2 Street exit to Beth El on your right.Â Coming from the south on MN 100, get off at the 25 1/2 St. exit. Meet at 10:00 and ride at 10:15. Directions. Head south on MN 77 (Cedar Avenue) and use the second exit on the south side of the MN River, Diffley Road (Cty Rd 30). AugÂ 4, Wed {WW} Looking for the Trail of the Alleygator. Â Meet in the parking lot of the now defunct Alleygator's Nite Club in Maple Grove and bike scenic trails to Elm Creek Park.Â Meet at 9:30 am so that we can begin riding at 9:45.Â Most of the ride will be on paved trails.Â Since this is a "no map" ride, we will ride together as a group.Â A major rest stop is planned in Elm Creek Park. July 22, Thurs {SNO} Country/Cajun Night of Music & Dancing Â An evening of Two Step Country/Cajun dance demos, free dance lessons,Â live music, and public dancingÂ in downtown St. Paul at the Landmark Plaza Park.Â Bring your own chair and meetÂ at 5:45 p.m. near the corner of N. 5th St. and St. Peter St. (east of the Landmark Center). Â Dance demo and free lessons begin at 6:00 p.m.Â Live music,Â by Kevin Anthony and the Twin City Playboys, and public dancingÂ begins at 8:00pm ( previously listed as 7:30)Â In case of rain, the dances will move inside the Ordway.Â Meritage Restaurant,which is located to the east of the Landmark Center)Â is selling $5 crepes on the sidewalk ( weather permitting) on these music/dancing nights. Jul 23, Fri (SNO) - Theatre in the Round's production of "Come Blow Your Horn" by Neil Simon with theatre board member, Francine Corcoran. Show time is 8:00 and the discounted ticket price is $18 - pay that night (lobby at 7:45). Optional dinner at Town Hall Brewery starts at 6:00 p.m., diagonal to the theatre. The theatre is at 245 Cedar Ave in Minneapolis. Best parking is in the Holiday Inn lot (don't pre-pay;get your $5/parking discount ticket at the box office).
