Jul 10, Sat {A} East Side Biking and Swim.  Join Chip and Laura for an east side tour, perhaps 40 miles to include Marine on St. Croix and Scandia.  Swim and pot luck afterwards.  Meet at 10 AM at Chip and Laura's, 1044 Park Ave in Mahtomedi.  Park in the beach parking lot across from their home.  Contact Chip or Laura at 651-429-2412 or ctreenmn@gmail.com.

JUL 10, Sat (A) St Paul Farmers Market Bike Ride. Meet 9:30 at the parking lot at Payne Ave and East 7th Street in St Paul for 20 to 25 mile C ride on mostly Gateway trail. There is additional parking on Payne Ave. After the ride we will visit the St Paul Farmers market to sample the food. FFI: Tom Stranc 651-994-6747 tammo2107@toast.net. July 12, Mon {A} Easy, Social Bike Ride.   Will cover the route that was rained out last Monday. We'll leave from the parking lot across the street from Lucky's Restaurant in Mendota.  This will be our annual ride into St. Paul which tests the amount of progress made this year by taking on the challenging climb across the High Bridge.  Meet at 5:00 pm so that we can ride at 5:15.  The route will cover about 25 miles.  We'll eat at Lucky's 13 Pub after the ride.  Dir: From Minneapolis, head south on MN 55 crossing the Mendota Bridge following signs for MN 13 North.  MN 13 makes a sharp left on the far side of the bridge and then goes down a steep hill into Mendota.  Lucky's will be on your right where the road flattens out.  From St. Paul, MN 13 can be picked up from I-35E.  Follow 13 south into Mendota; park across the street from Lucky's.  FFI:  Al Mayer  952-545-4232 or on my cell 1-hr before the ride  612-817-6814

Jul 14, Wed {WW} Forest Lake Bike Ride and BBQ.   Meet at 9:15 a.m. (begin biking at 9:30) at the Morrissey home on Forest Lake, 8959 North Shore Trail. There will be 30 and 40 mile options with a snack stop. BBQ after the ride with swimming available. Burgers, beer and potato salad provided; bring other beverages plus an appetizer, salad or dessert to share (also coolers and lawn chairs). Directions: I-35 north to Hwy 8; east on Hwy. 8 to Greenway, right to North Shore Trail (Cty Rd 2); left on CR 2 approx. four miles to 8959 (on the right). Jul 15, Thu AK Hike - Lake Harriet.  Join us for a midsummer stroll at Centennial Lakes Park in Edina (76th and France Ave. S.) at 6:30 p.m.  Gather at the park pavilion (near the Chucky Cheese entrance). Hopefully we will see the remote control boats on the lake or a concert at the band shell.  Opportunities exist for a ride on the pedal boats or a round of lawn bowling.  Of course there will be a treat stop after.  See you there!  Inez Wick  612-825-3596  Dana Siskind  612-929-0205  danasiskind@ureach.com

Jul 16, Fri A Surprise Breakfast Ride.  This "B" ride covers approximately 30 miles.  Meet at 6:45 am and ride at 7:00 sharp, leaving from the Marriott Inn, northwest corner of US 169 and I-394 in St. Louis Park. Jul 16, Fri {A} Sommerfest and Peavey Plaza Fun. NOT JUST FOR SINGLES ANYMORE. Several tickets at the discounted group rate are still available for a North Stars annual tradition: a gathering to dine and enjoy music on the outdoor stage at Peavey Plaza and a Sommerfest concert at Orchestra  Hall. All club members and friends are invited! The MN Orchestra will play selections from the ballets of Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev at 8 PM. The á capella vocal group Up ‘til 2  performs on the plaza before the concert, and fabulous jazz with vocalist Charmin Michelle and guitarist Joel Shapira follows the concert. Jul 16-18 Fri-Sun A Wind, Weeds,and Waves Weekend.  Weekend of camping, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, campfires, games, music and just plain fun at my cabin on Platte Lake located about 100 miles from the Twin Cities near Brainard. Join other NorthStars for a laid back old fashioned summer weekend.  Biking and golf options are also available. Participants will be assigned meals to prepare and food costs will be reimbursed.  Accomodations will be either tent or cabin.  Cost $40  Limit of 12 people. Reservation deadline July 7. Jul 20, Tue A Volunteering for the Emergency Foodshelf Network. One day a month a group of North Stars volunteer for the Emergency Foodshelf Network in New Hope.  We usually work on the third Tuesday of each month and work for three hours stating at 9:00 am.  Directions to the EFS facility: If heading toward New Hope via 1-94/694 take the Boone Ave exit and head south on Boone to 54th Ave N. Jul 21, Wed {WW}Trips Planning Meeting & Grand Rounds Bike Ride.   Meet at the Minnehaha Falls Park Pavillion at 9:30 am with ideas and suggestions for rides you might like to lead in September and October.  After the meeting, about 10:15, we will bike a modified version of the Grand Rounds Route.  July 22, Thurs {SNO} Country/Cajun Night of Music & Dancing  An evening of Two Step Country/Cajun dance demos, free dance lessons, live music, and public dancing in downtown St. Paul at the Landmark Plaza Park.  Bring your own chair and meet at 5:45 p.m. near the corner of N. 5th St. and St. Peter St. (east of the Landmark Center).   Dance demo and free lessons begin at 6:00 p.m.  Live music, by Kevin Anthony and the Twin City Playboys, and public dancing begins at 8:00pm ( previously listed as 7:30)   In case of rain, the dances will move inside the Ordway.  Carpooling recommended.  July 23, Fri (SNO) - Theatre in the Round's production of "Come Blow Your Horn" by Neil Simon with theatre board member, Francine Corcoran. Show time is 8:00 and the discounted ticket price is $18 - pay that night (lobby at 7:45). Optional dinner at Town Hall Brewery starts at 6:00 p.m., diagonal to the theatre. The theatre is at 245 Cedar Ave in Minneapolis. Best parking is in the Holiday Inn lot (don't pre-pay;get your $5/parking discount ticket at the box office).
