Jul 3, Sat {A} Bike the Parkways, Potluck in the Garden   Approximate 35-mile bike ride on Twin Cities byways, using both roads and paths, riding at a moderate 'B' pace.  We'll stop a couple of times to enjoy local culture, baked goods and cool beverages. Meet at Mike & Julie's, drop off your potluck item, then bike from our house.  We'll return to graze in Julie's award-winning garden - that which the bunnies and hail hath not pruned! There will be ice to keep your brews cold; we'll provide soft drinks and dessert.  Appetizers, salads and main dishes most welcome!  The ride will start at 10 am.  RSVP by noon Friday 7/2.  FFI:  612 927 8423 or jujnelson80@msn.com
Jul 5, Mon {A} Easy Social Bike Ride. .Leave from the VFW parking lot across the street from Axel's Restaurant in Mendota. This will be our annual ride into St. Paul which tests the amount of progress we've made this year by taking on the challenging climb across the High Bridge. Meet at 5:00 pm; ride at 5:15. The route will cover about 25 miles. We'll eat at Axel's after the ride. Dir: From Minneapolis, head south on MN 55 crossing the Mendota Bridge following signs for MN 13 North. MN 13 makes a sharp right on the far side of the bridge and then goes down a steep hill in Mendota. Axel's will be on your right. after the road flattens out. From St. Paul, MN 13 can be picked up from I-35E. Follow 13 south into Mendota; park across the street from Axel's. Jul 7, Wed {WW} Bike Cannon Falls-Red Wing. Meet 9:30 a.m.(ride at 9:45) at the Cannon Valley Trail access parking lot on Highway 19 in downtown Cannon Falls. For this 45 mile round trip we will bike along county roads, eat lunch at the Bierstube in Red Wing and return to Cannon Falls via the scenic Cannon Valley Trail. A $3.00 trail pass, which can be purchased at the trailhead is required. Jul 14, Wed {WW} Forest Lake Bike Ride and BBQ.  Meet at 9:15 a.m. (begin biking at 9:30) at the Morrissey home on Forest Lake, 8959 North Shore Trail. There will be 30 and 40 mile options with a snack stop. BBQ after the ride with swimming available. Burgers, beer and potato salad provided; bring other beverages plus an appetizer, salad or dessert to share (also coolers and lawn chairs). Directions: I-35 north to Hwy 8; east on Hwy. 8 to Greenway, right to North Shore Trail (Cty Rd 2); left on CR 2 approx. four miles to 8959 (on the right). Jul 15, Thu AK Hike - Lake Harriet. Join us for a midsummer stroll at Centennial Lakes Park in Edina (76th and France Ave. S.) at 6:30 p.m. Gather at the park pavilion (near the Chucky Cheese entrance). Jul 3, Sat {S} Minneapolis Bike Tour & Pot Luck. City bike ride and pot luck Come dressed to > celebrate July 4th. Meet at Pat's house, 5015 Bruce Ave, Edina 55424, at 9:30am for coffee and rolls; start biking at 10am sharp! Our usual route: Minnehaha Creek to the falls, our 1st rest stop, then continue along the Mississippi to St. Anthony on Maine and the Stone Arch bridge for our 2nd rest stop (and maybe a refreshing cervaza!). The last leg is along the Cedar Lake and Greeway trails and city lakes for a total of about 32 miles. Pat will provide brats and chips. Jul 16, Fri {SNO} Sommerfest and Peavey Plaza Fun. ADVANCE TICKET SALE. An > annual tradition continues, with a gathering to dine and enjoy music on > the outdoor stage at Peavey Plaza and a Sommerfest concert at Orchestra Hall. The MN Orchestra will play selections from the ballets of Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev at 8 PM. The á capella vocal group Up âtil 2 performs on the plaza before the concert, and fabulous jazz with vocalist Charmin Michelle and guitarist Joel Shapira follows the concert. July 23, Fri (SNO) - Theatre in the Round's production of "Come Blow Your Horn" by Neil Simon with theatre board member, Francine Corcoran. Show time is 8:00 and the discounted ticket price is $18 - pay that night (lobby at 7:45). Optional dinner at Town Hall Brewery starts at 6:00 p.m., diagonal to the theatre. The theatre is at 245 Cedar Ave in Minneapolis. Best parking is in the Holiday Inn lot (don't pre-pay-get your $5/parking discount ticket at the box office). Long time North Stars member Carol Krush was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia two weeks ago. She has been on the oncology unit of Abbot Northwestern hospital for the past 11 days and will spend at least another 2.5 weeks here.  Friends can follow her progress on the Caring Bridge web site. She also welcomes visitors, since she has had few side effects from the chemo so far.
